War in Burma - Death of a Soldier

A KNLA fighter lays dead at a small military outpost near the frontlines. Soon his mother and sister will arrive, along with extended family, members of his military unit, and local Buddhist monks. Once all are gathered the monks will lead a ceremony of prayer and chanting, followed by a funeral pyre where the young man will be placed on a bed of longs and timber and set aflame as is the Buddhist tradition. ©Thomas James Hurst
